Causes of Crime to Outrage Women's Modesty in India

• Crimes against women in India related to assault and sexual harassment remained a serious concern, though overall trends were mixed. Assault on women with intent to outrage modesty accounted for the largest share, slightly declining from 49,761 to 45,086 cases.

• Sexual harassment in public spaces and public transport showed a notable increase, especially in transport where cases rose from 357 to 525, highlighting growing risks in everyday mobility.

• Offences such as stalking also increased steadily, from 9,285 to 10,495, reflecting rising online and offline harassment.

• Meanwhile, assault with intent to disrobe and sexual harassment at workplaces showed slight declines, suggesting some progress in those areas.

• The data reflects that while some categories saw modest improvement, public space and digital harassment remain escalating threats to women’s safety in India.
