Causes of Crime to Outrage Women's Modesty in India

Crimes against women in India related to assault and sexual harassment remained a serious concern, though overall trends were mixed. Assault on women with intent to outrage modesty accounted for the largest share, slightly declining from 49,761 to 45,086 cases.
Sexual harassment in public spaces and public transport showed a notable increase, especially in transport where cases rose from 357 to 525, highlighting growing risks in everyday mobility.
Offences such as stalking also increased steadily, from 9,285 to 10,495, reflecting rising online and offline harassment.
Meanwhile, assault with intent to disrobe and sexual harassment at workplaces showed slight declines, suggesting some progress in those areas.
The data reflects that while some categories saw modest improvement, public space and digital harassment remain escalating threats to women’s safety in India.
